Stress represents the physical, mental, and emotional reaction to negative consequences, and is measured with Stress Points. New characters begin play with 0 stress. When a character suffers Consequences from Actions, it can increase stress. During periods of Rest and Recovery, players can reduce their stress.

When a character’s stress reaches their maximum stress level, they are taken out of the scene until they can recover. Depending on game options, stress can also lead to a character's death.

Character Death

How the game handles character death is determined by the game option Death's Door. By default, character death is a player choice, but a group may prefer Dangerous Encounters. Groups should always discuss character death scenarios as part of Session Zero.
