Capital

Capital is a flexible resource representing the amalgamation of time, money, or effort invested into creating, acquiring, or improving characters and equipment.

The game system uses the concept of Capital as a simpler and more narrative alternative to the use of fixed currency wealth systems. Capital is awarded to players at the start of a new adventure or campaign to create characters and optionally, as one type of in-game reward typically for time spent playing and the completion of narrative milestones.

Capital reflects a character's growth, resources, and influence, providing opportunities for both individual progression and group-oriented investments.

Earning Capital

Capital is earned by achieving narrative milestones, such as completing Quests, Missions, or other significant story objectives.

Individual rewards are split evenly between players for character progression. When it makes sense, the Game Host can also award a pool of Capital as a shared resource for the entire group. This can be used to pursue acquisitions that benefit the entire group such as property for a guild hall or hideout, a business, or a piece of equipment.

Spending Capital

Players can spend their Capital during Downtime to enhance their characters or support group goals. For individual progression, Capital can be used to acquire or upgrade Assets, add Features, or replenish and repair Resources.

For group acquisitions, players may pool their Capital to invest in shared elements like a hideout, guild hall, or high-cost equipment such as a spacecraft.

CAPITAL REWARDS

Capital is just one type of reward that can be utilized by a Game Host to motivate players, but may not be suitable for every type of setting or adventure.

For more information, see Rewards for more guidance on a variety of reward types and how they can be awarded.
